Function / Content

This series consists of applications for various forms of mining claims in the Alice Springs/Stuart region. These applications include those for machinery areas, mineral reef claims, prospecting areas, residence areas, reward areas, stack of earth, tailings areas and water rights. Number 185A-190A, 192A-310A, 312A-326A, 348A, 363A, 375A, 393A-394A, 3397A and 399A are missing. Each of these applications care folded into dockets with the front of these dockets used to record the type of application, the application number (with an A suffix) and, in most instances, the name of the applicants and the location of the interest. The composition of the files vary depending on the type of claim with the forms used varying; many of these applications also include related correspondence. Included within this series are two applications, one from Charles Henry Chapman and another from Thomas Barry Crosbie (this is the only application to have an AA suffix) for the registration of a stack of earth. These registrations enabled them to register as their property stacks of ore, making it illegal for anyone else to remove. Charley Henry Chapman registered a stack of an estimated 65 ton of ore at the Tanami Goldfield and Thomas Barry Crosbie registered an estimated 150 ton of silver lead ore at a claim known as "The Green Parrot" (registered number 586) in the Jervois Ranges.
